Report - Stripers - Fishing is Poor - The delta waters have warmed
and fish are hard to find. Most fish are either up the Mokelumne or up
the Sacramento in the spawning mode. Although there may be a few fish around, the
season's basically over till the fall. A downriver run may start
soon but I hate to stress the fish after they've spawned.
Largemouth - Fishing
is Good to Red Hot- The warming weather, bright sunshine and warming water
have caused the bass to move deeper making it more difficult for the fly
fisher to score. Fish topwater mornings and evenings for some dynamite
action. |

Stripers
- Fishing is Fair - The waters in the sloughs have warmed to the
high 60's. Most fish are either up the Mokelumne or up
the Sacramento in the spawning mode.. A few stragglers are still around but are scattered.
Fishing is best in low light.

tighter.Fish topwater mornings and evenings for some dynamite action.

Stripers
- Fishing is Fair to Good - The
delta waters are clearing. Stripers are scattered throughout the system
with some big fish. Water temperatures are now between 61 and 65
degrees, perfect for spawning. Fish should returning downriver and back
into the delta waterways before heading into the lower delta and San
Francisco bay.
Largemouth - Fishing
is Red Hot - Fish
are holding close to the banks and will smash a chartreuse streamer or
leech. Fish a type II sink-tip close to the bank with enough pauses to
get down to the fish, The wind has been a problem since the re-opening
of the delta. |

Stripers
- Fishing is Poor to Fair - The main rivers are still
clogged with silt and still chocolate brown. The stripers holding in the
sloughs along the Mokelumne have moved upriver in spite of the heavy
water and can be found from New Hope Landing upriver. Their numbers have
been diminished somewhat by a voracious sea lion that has worked the
sloughs, ripping up fish at will for the past week. Presentation should
be made from an anchored boat with casts that swing across the current
with a heavily weighted line. A fish finder helps in
locating fish. Fishing is tough with lots of debris in the river causing
lots of hang ups.
Largemouth - Fishing is Red Hot - Large Mouth have turned on in the sloughs and can be
taken easily by working the banks with a large weighted olive wooly
bugger on a floating line with a six foot leader. Strip the fly in a
series of quick and slow strips, causing the fly to jig up and down on
the floating line. Maxima 15# test makes a great leader for this
presentation. Don't worry about taper. The short length solves the
problem. A longer leader will get you in trouble since the fly will sink
down into the weeds. |

Stripers
- Fishing is Red Hot - Although the
San Joaquin and other main rivers are the color of chocolate milk,
stripers have bunched up on the Mokelumne at the ends of Sycamore, Hog and
Beaver Sloughs in numbers. The fish are aggressive and will readily take
a fly. Chartreuse clousers in size 1/0 seem to be the key to getting consistent
hookups. Flies should be fished on fast sinking lines and retrieved with
a pause every three to five pulls. |

Stripers
- Fishing is Fair - The main rivers are full of mud and the fish are
scattered in the slough arms of the Mokelumne. Once located the fish
will take a fly if you're persistent and use a slow presentation. Fish
with a quick sinking line and a slow retrieve with lots of pauses. |
