Delta Watch

Together We Can Help Stop Poaching

bulletCurrently there are six wardens that look out for Striped Bass poaching in the California Delta system. That's 12 eyes and ears watching over 2,000 miles of waterways.
bulletYou can help by choosing to be a part of Delta Watch. Just like Neighborhood Watch tm helps keep our communities safe from crime, Delta Watch can help improve our Striped Bass fishery by stopping poaching.
bulletOur six Striped Bass wardens need your eyes and ears looking out for poachers.
bulletHow can you be of help?
  1. Be Observant. Become educated on how poachers operate.
  2. Have binoculars on board your vessel so you can record CF numbers if you see suspicious activity.
  3. Make note of any suspicious vehicle license plate numbers.
  4. Have the CalTIP number handy on your vessel and become educated as to how CalTIP works.
  5. Put the CalTip number in your cell phone for easy access. 1-888-DFG-CalTIP (1-888-334-2258), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you witness a poaching or polluting incident or any fish and wildlife violation, or have information about such a violation, immediately dial the toll free CalTip number.
Be prepared to give the fullest possible account of the incident including the name, address, age and description of the suspect, vehicle description, direction of travel, license number, type of violations and when and where it occurred. Your identity will be protected.
A warden or dispatcher will take your call. Information from the call is relayed to the Fish and Game region where the offense occurred and an investigation is undertaken locally. If the information supplied by the caller results in an arrest, the caller becomes eligible for a reward. (Rewards of up to $1,000 have been paid.) All reward money is acquired through private donations; no state funds are used. The case is then reviewed by a volunteer citizen's group known as the CalTIP Citizen's Review Board.
